Twenty years ago, I joined Banya family Placement Agency as a Fostering Manager. We were a small team of social workers with less than ten foster carers and even less children and young people. Our task was too robustly ensuring that that local Authorities could make placements with foster families who were well supported and supervised, their children and young people would be safe, the Agency also had to ensure that the Local Authorities expectations were met with regards to our families roles and responsibilities.
The agency has grown successfully over the years, there are more of us in every way, but I would like to think that our ethos of ‘A Sense of Belonging ‘remains intact as we continue to progress. Banya celebrated our milestone with a party in December 2017, it was a testament to the Agency that our young people spoke of their experiences.
They are all fine young adults who are proud of their heritage, self-confident in their abilities, achieving in their careers and are able to live successfully within the wider community. That’s Banya.
